Tasks get completed much more quickly the second time around. This driver’s side cabinet frame took less than an hour to assemble and fit! Even though we have only just completed all the cabinetry carcasses, it has been so exciting to see build plans pan out. If this van project was a puzzle, we would be at the point where all the edges are finished and are now securing larger chunks of the whole shebang.

Remember these cherry countertops that we built about a week and a half ago?

Countertops from Day 12

Here is where they come into play — laid on their respective cabinets:

Of course, we had to clean them up a bit before we go ahead and cut them down to size and secure them to the cabinet frames. As always, Pa has a tool for everything. We used an orbital sander to cut thru all the excess wood glue and remove any surface imperfections.

Light pressure. Let the sander do the work.

The end results are countertop surfaces, smooth as a baby’s bottom, ready to receive stain.

While Pa and I were doing the woodworking, Ma busied herself by painting all the wooden paneling. We chose a white semi-gloss paint that will cover the benches/bed, cabinets, and walls — providing great contrast to the stained wood of the flooring, counters, tabletop, and ceiling. It’s a pretty common theme in these projects but it’s oh so clean.
